Notes for the Fall 2010 Season

U9/U10 Coaches:

thank you for volunteering your time and energy to coaching your SOCS team.   As a SOCS volunteer coach, you are a valuable member of the SOCS family.   Your job may seem small, but you are actually helping 700+ players get exercise, learn the value of teamwork and enjoy the game of soccer.   You are the best!

Here are some important notes for a successful soccer season:

·      All games will be played at Catalpa Oaks Field, located on Catalpa, west of Greenfield in Southfield.  The fields are “North” and “South” and once the fields are set up on August 21, you are welcome to head over to Catalpa to see EXACTLY where they are positioned.   (Better yet, volunteer to help SET UP the fields – contact me for more information about this!)

·     In the event of field closure or game cancellation due to weather, please follow this reschedule procedure:   contact the other team’s coach and decide a few mutually agreeable dates for reschedule; the home team coach should then contact SOCS scheduler Mary Beth Braun for available fields.   Her contact information is:   socsscheduler@yahoo.com or 248-515-9243.

·     If, ten minutes prior to the start of your scheduled game, you do not have a referee, please call or text me at 248-543-9126.   I can contact our referee scheduler, who has a handle on where her referees are.   Sometimes they are travelling from another field and are on their way.

·     My telephone number is a cell number.   You can text AND call this number.
·     Don’t forget corner flags!   If you are the home team of the first game scheduled on the field for the day, please pick up four corner flags from 2312 Thomas Ave, Berkley, on the corner of Thomas and Oxford – very close to Catalpa Oaks.   The flags are in a bin marked “Youth Soccer Flags.”

·     Just as important as collecting the flags is the task of RETURNING the flags.   If you are the home team of the final game of the day on your field, PLEASE collect the flags and return them to 2312 Thomas Ave.   Failure to do so means lost flags and wasted league money.   Thanks for paying attention to this.

·     Please be prepared for jersey color conflicts!   Home team is responsible for changing in the event of a conflict.   Please carry pinnies or have your players bring a white t-shirt to each home game.   Be prepared for this possibility!

Also:   you have received jerseys to distribute to your players.   At the END of the fall season, please collect the jerseys from your players, even if you know your players will return for the spring season.   You will reissue the jerseys in the spring, and after the spring season, your players can keep their jerseys.   This is YOUR responsibility!   I cannot replace jerseys that you did not collect at the end of the fall season.
